Beyond the Academy: How YMLA & SMDP 2026 Is Raising a Generation of Purpose-Driven Leaders
When the final session ended, the closing prayers were said, and participants began their journeys back home, one thing became clear—YMLA & SMDP 2026 was never just another event. It was a transformational experience that planted seeds of purpose, leadership, faith, and excellence in the lives of hundreds of young people.
For six impactful days, the Young Mentoring and Leadership Academy (YMLA) and the Student Mentorship & Development Programme (SMDP) brought together students, mentors, educators, professionals, volunteers, and alumni with one common goal: to raise a generation that will lead with integrity, serve with compassion, and live with purpose.
This year's academy welcomed over 160 YMLA participants, more than 100 SMDP students, and over 100 alumni and volunteers who worked tirelessly to create an environment where every participant felt valued, encouraged, and inspired.
Throughout the programme, participants attended carefully designed sessions on destiny discovery, leadership, character development, academic excellence, life skills, spiritual growth, mentorship, and personal development. These sessions challenged young people to think beyond their present circumstances and begin preparing for lives of lasting impact.
The academy featured an outstanding lineup of facilitators, including experienced lecturers, professors, medical professionals, leadership mentors, and technology experts. Through practical teaching and real-life experiences, speakers such as John Ojumoola, Prof. Onakpoya, Dr. Dami (UnimedTHC), Gbenga Adebanjo, Idowu Kolawole, Dr. Dimeji, Dr. Ugo (UK), and other facilitators encouraged participants to embrace excellence, discipline, purpose, and service.
Learning at YMLA & SMDP extended beyond the classroom. Through transformational films such as The Passion of Christ, Hatima I & II, and Ibidamipe, participants reflected on powerful lessons about sacrifice, character, faith, and the importance of making wise life decisions. Group discussions, mentorship sessions, counselling, excellence drills, quizzes, and leadership activities created opportunities for meaningful conversations and personal growth.
One of the highlights of this year's programme was TNGIMPACT's unwavering commitment to educational empowerment. Every participant received a scholarship opportunity, reinforcing the organization's vision of ensuring that financial limitations do not prevent young people from accessing quality education, mentorship, and life-transforming opportunities. Participants were also introduced to the opportunities available through the TNGIMPACT Free Institution (TPI), where they can continue developing academically, vocationally, and personally.
Excellence was also celebrated throughout the academy. Daily quizzes and brain drills encouraged participants to remain attentive, disciplined, and intellectually engaged. At the end of the programme, ten outstanding students were rewarded with cash prizes in recognition of their exceptional performance, demonstrating that dedication and hard work deserve to be celebrated.
The impact of YMLA & SMDP 2026 did not end at the venue. The TNGIMPACT Media Team captured inspiring stories through interviews with facilitators and more than 30 participants, allowing testimonies of transformation to reach an even wider audience. Several interviews have already been published online, with one video surpassing 400 views within its first day, showing the growing interest in the programme and its mission.
Perhaps the greatest success of YMLA & SMDP 2026 cannot be measured by attendance alone. It is found in the renewed confidence of a young person who discovered purpose, the student who realized their leadership potential, the participant who found hope for the future, and the friendships and mentorship relationships that will continue long after the programme has ended.
As participants return to their schools, communities, and families, they carry with them more than memories—they carry a vision to live intentionally, pursue excellence, and become positive agents of change wherever they go.

Together, we have once again demonstrated that when young people are equipped with the right knowledge, values, mentorship, and opportunities, they become catalysts for transformation.
YMLA & SMDP 2026 has come to an end, but the mission continues. The seeds planted during these six days will continue to grow in classrooms, campuses, workplaces, churches, communities, and nations for years to come.
